Final year project:
"eons"
For my final year project, we were given the luxury of creating unique concepts based on a broad category of themes.
"EONS" is a storytelling concept which dives into the topic of slavery, as we unravel the truth behind the evolution of mankind as well as the forms of slavery in the past, present and potential future.
"EONS" WRITE-UP
The crucible of slavery is marked by both progress and suffering, leaving an indelible mark on humanity as we continue to grow and learn from our past. Humanity has progressed as we learn to embrace rather than isolate, fostering key characteristics such as empathy, love and kindness, or so we thought.
"EONS" showcases how slavery is ever-present as the oppressed are hidden away in plain sight while their oppressors put on a facade, creating the illusion that humanity as a whole has progressed socially when, in reality, the only thing that has changed over time is the form of slavery itself. This collection challenges our systems and beliefs of our own progression as a human race as we dive into slavery in the past, present and, as we continue to lose touch with our humane selves, our future.
This collection heavily utilises textile manipulations inspired by various forms of slavery in the past, present and potential future. This further enhances the idea of how slavery is still ever-present and ever-changing.
