'The Contradictory' talks about the beauty that lies within deforestation. Rather than talking about the negative aspects of deforestation, this concept takes a more cheerful and hopeful aspect of deforestation and that is 'reforestation'. Some negative impacts of deforestation include the death of many wildlife, which is extremely cruel and sad but they somehow contribute back, by allowing other wildlife to thrive off them. Thus, 'The Contradictory' talks about the relationship life and death have with each other. Without life, there is no death and without death, there will be no sacrifices made for life.
APPAREL design project 1:
The contradictory
In this assignment, we were challenged to design and produce a statement 2-piece streetwear look that was made from upcycled materials, characterised by visually compelling prints inspired by the topic of 'deforestation'. The use of Cricut machines were a criterion to help enhance our finished look.
In this entire outfit, I incorporated the first motif into my top. The ribcage was produced using the Cricut machine. Meanwhile, for the vines, I silkscreen printed them onto my top. Lastly, for my flowers, I embroidered them onto my top by hand.
The shirt is made using 2-layers, with the outer layer being burnt to show the inner layer of the shirt. This is to show the relationship between life and death. It shows how death can bring a beautiful aspect to the table and in this case, it is life.
